Her Voice: Recovery From Years of Trauma Induced Depression

Better than written testimony can be the raw voice, the inflections that can never be communicated or translated into script. Sometimes the clarion call and vibration shows up in the subtle turns that make the nuance of the breath rushing across the vocal chords, the fresh freedom or still with hints of history of pain and joy all melded together.

Here, as you double click on the photo it opens up to the experience of Haley, having survived not just one, but two attempted murders and still finding her path to resolve, her discovery of her own peace she discovers exists that she thought never has or never will, and here it is!

AUDIO TESTIMONIALS

Why are audio-testimonials preferred at Making Sanctuary rather than written formats? The main reason is to convey authenticity, then the texture and relatability conveyed through the visceral quality of a voice that can show a mood, a sincerity, an excitement that text cannot. Authenticity of text on the internet can easily be fake and while I would never do this, would anyone? Yes, someone somewhere does and has and might exaggerate and the visitors coming to Making Sanctuary might also have a healthy skepticism or a cynical skepticism on the topic of awareness and meditation, and either way, and it only helps to reassure visitors that this is real, not fake or false or fraudulent as that would be a waste of time and life is too short and precious for such shenanigans. If you are going to embark on awareness with me, it is best to have as much curiosity and openness and humor as possible to feed success in your own personal experience.

AUTONOMY & PRACTICE

Taking a look at what and who we are, when we get down to it, when we do not avoid our inner reality, becomes an honesty like no other. Many times people consider being alone a lonely experience and long time meditators find experience quite to the contrary. When surveyed alone vs. being surveyed while in the presence of another or others around us, scientific findings reveal that our human and “honest” answers change. When I meditate with newly becoming meditation enthusiasts that become meditation enthusiasts in just one session, it is because they can finally see a whole new approach to the practice of depending on their interior reality as their guide and that they indeed find interior guidance independent and far and away from the feel of being tethered to the externals of society, physicality, and that the interior of themselves is even enthralling and a place to take flight within, without having to go anywhere but right here, right now, open and curious and a pathway or sequence that is sturdy and reliable for trustworthy insight.

Autonomy & Practice
Autonomy & Practice

Once you find this bedrock of solitary practice, it in itself, is this motivation to continue on, on your own, to survey further and with it a feeling of not being alone, that the place is waiting, home is waiting patiently for you and there is always a welcome like no other. Being Quite satisfied and filled in a way that adds to your compassion and presence when with others is a sure sign that you are in your natural place, your own true and internal wilderness.

You don’t have to call your practice meditation. You can call it anything that suits your experience most accurately to you. Some call it meditation, others call it an awareness practice, some traditions call it a form of prayer, other traditions call it vespers while other traditions call it silence. Rumi calls it his “friend” or “the friend.” I hear others simply call it a place of peace. As you try it on it may take on all these names, one of them, none of them. This is your own internal address. Sometimes I find it a place of sanctuary that is a treasure of generous and unsurpassed trove of loving surprises with a bend of kindness at every turn. This is an organic and individual process every time, never to be bored of it. Kaleidoscopic, never the exact same thing twice.
